Update

4th May 2020

Dear Parents and Children,

As you all know by now, there will be no return to school until September, unfortunately. This is not something that any of us had anticipated on March 12th when we closed our doors for an initial two-week period.

This extended school closure, while necessary to safeguard our health and the capacity of our healthcare system, brings its own issues. I know so many children are missing out on the routine of school and the company of their friends. This term is always a particularly special term, with school tours, sports days, First Holy Communion and a graduation mass for all of our 6th class pupils.

While we will have to wait another year for our sports day and school tour, we hope to have a graduation mass for our 6th class pupils as soon as restrictions allow. Our First Communion mass will also take place as soon soon as restrictions allow.

I know many of our students are also disappointed that our school musical 'The Sound of Music' had to be postponed. We were just three weeks from our opening performance when the school closures were announced and huge effort had gone into the production, by pupils, staff and parents alike. We fully intend to stage 'The Sound of Music' as soon as restrictions allow. I will be in touch with parents of 6th class pupils to discuss possible participation at a later date.

Finally, I know that everyone has been working hard on the schoolwork provided by the class teachers. We are aware that online links and such are not always the most ideal method of learning. We hope to be able to get textbooks to pupils over the coming weeks, in a safe manner and in keeping with government guidelines. More to follow on this.

If anyone has any queries, please do not hesitate to email the school (goldenns@yahoo.ie) or contact us through the 'seesaw' app.

Stay safe,

Ms. Corbett
