Turning our Pupils into Published Authors!!

22nd Oct 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are delighted to let you know that your son/daughter is being afforded the opportunity to become a real published author!

Golden National School, in association with the Emu Ink Schools’ Publishing Programme, is about to embark on a really exciting initiative which will culminate in the publication of a school anthology.

Over the coming weeks, your son/daughter will engage in a recount writing process to support him/her in producing a short story or poem for our Covid Book Project. We want the children to express their thoughts and feelings, develop their writing abilities and, in doing so, take care of their mental health and wellbeing. Never has this been more important than now.

Through The Covid Book Project, the children will give an account of their life during this time. Each child’s story will ensure that a public record of this period is available in our school and throughout the wider community for posterity, when facts about this period will no doubt be taught as a theme in social and living history.

Each class teacher will offer their full support through in-school writing and brainstorming activities in order to complete captivating stories or poems. Once the editing and proofreading process is completed in school, the children will be asked to type up their accounts at home and email it to their teacher by Wednesday, 11th Novemeber 2020. The school staff will then submit each document for publication.

Your child will also be creating artwork for possible inclusion on the cover of the book. At home, you can encourage your son/daughter along this journey by sharing your enthusiasm for the initiative and supporting your child as he/she engages in the various stages of the process.

We hope to have a book launch of the publication in the school on Friday, 18th December 2020, just in time for Christmas! Prior to that date, you will be invited to pre-order copies of the book at a cost of €15 each. You will be provided with more details nearer to the event.

Thank you for your continued co-operation and support.

Le meas,

James McCarthy
