Tipperary Food Producers Visit

13th Nov 2019

Last month, the girls and boys in 3rd and 4th class entered a colouring competition organized by the Tipperary Food Producers and won! Our prize included a visit to our school from some local food producers, a virtual reality tour of local food producers premises and a copy each of the newly published Tipperary Food Producers book.

On Friday, November 8th, we had a visit from Veronica Molloy from Crossogue Preserves and Una O’Dwyer from The Butchers Daughter. They spoke to the children about their respective businesses, how they began and how their businesses operate today. The children were thoroughly engrossed and had many questions!

Afterwards, we children donned a headset and undertook a virtual reality tour of some of local food producing businesses. This was a first for most of them and they really enjoyed this aspect of the visit!

We were then treated to some of the tasty produce from Crossogue Preserves and The Butchers Daughter.

All in all, we had a wonderful morning and learnt a lot about food production, family-run businesses and the importance of buying local. Many thanks to Veronica, Una and Michelle from the Tipperary Food Producers and a special thanks to Jack Donnelly (4th class) whose picture was chosen as they winning entry.
